Community Connection

I created the Community Connection project with the goal of highlighting areas that I have a close connection with. So far, I’ve been able to highlight communities from both sides of my family.

The 70s Prject

Historic moments from the 1970s

The 70s Prject was created with celebrating the newsworthy decade of the 1970s. It’s now been 50 years since the seventies began and I thought I’d highlight some of the most iconic moments from the decade.

1968 Series

Rock ’n’ roll music being welcomed into the mainstream, the war in Vietnam, the race for a new president, the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy, violence at the Democratic National Convention and Apollo 8.

The 1960s were constantly filled with never-ending protests, music, culture, news; everything. But only one year captured the decade perfectly.

That year was 1968.

1968: Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Triumphant Year

The world had shifted from the colourless fifties to the kaleidoscopic sixties.

1968: The Height of the Vietnam War

The endless war that reached its peak with Lyndon B. Johnson in power and ended with Richard Nixon, would lead to countless protests and dissatisfaction with the government.

1968: The Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

In the early 1960s, progress on civil rights was moving at a snail’s pace but the divide was gradually crumbling thanks to the effort of Dr. King by bridging the gaps between races.

1968: The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy

With all the grief that surrounded America throughout the decade, Bobby’s death might have been the worst of all. The nation had no progressive direction to head in. He was the only man that had been to all parts of the country, who had seen the poverty plaguing its own land and wanted to do something about it.

1968: The Presidential Race and the Democratic National Convention

With the height of protesting the Vietnam War, the Democratic National Convention turned violent on the inside and out when police officers patrolling the convention started beating protesters in the streets on national television.

1968: The Successful Journey of Apollo 8

Apollo 8 was a specifically memorable journey. It was the first time a spacecraft had orbited the Moon and more extraordinary, it was the first time we were provided with a glimpse of our very own planet.
