With the pace he’s been on this season and the success he’s had throughout his entire career, Crosby’s career milestones are far from over.
Sidney Crosby is a legend.
If it wasn’t obvious already by the numerous team and individual awards Crosby’s won over the years – most recently his second Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Conn Smythe and MVP of the World Cup of Hockey 2016 while leading Team Canada to victory – this might help.
On Thursday night the Penguins played the lacklustre Winnipeg Jets, but Crosby passed another milestone. He became the 12th fastest player to reach 1,000 points, doing so in just 757 NHL games. This puts Crosby just ahead of Jaromir Jagr (763 games).
It was only fitting that Crosby would end up with three points on the night and the game-winning goal in overtime. The supporting cast of Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Chris Kunitz and Marc-Andre Fleury by his side was extremely touching. Each player picked up at least one point and Fleury made an impressive 44 saves in a 4-3 Penguins victory.
Crosby managed to get his 1,000th point when he set up Kunitz to make it 2-0 with 6:28 remaining in the first period and ended the night with a beautiful tap-in from Malkin with 21.1 seconds left in overtime.
On Oct. 5, 2005, Crosby picked up his first point with an assist to Mark Recchi and on Feb. 16, 2017, he achieved the milestone not many players can reach. Can you believe that if health problems and lockout-shortened seasons hadn’t been a factor, he could’ve passed that milestone months ago?
Crosby is on pace to reach the 40-goal mark for the second time in his career as well as the 100-point mark for the second time since the 2009-10 season.
With the pace he’s been on this season and the success he’s had throughout his entire career, Crosby’s career milestones are far from over. Welcome to the 1,000th point club Crosby, only 998 more to go until your 2,000th.
